Understanding & Ensuring Compliance Across Our Industry

As a member of the National Association of Jewellers (NAJ) it is great to see how the organisation is always working towards professional excellence across the industry.

One element of the NAJ's strategy covers the matter of compliance, and in particular, trying to ensure that all jewellers are aware of their responsibility in buying and selling jewellery within our industry, and understanding ever changing legal obligations and running a compliant and successful business. A subject we all know can be very challenging.

Here at Sheffield Assay Office, History, Integrity and Innovation and are the heart of everything we do.  Across all our divisions, and the full range of services that we offer, providing an independent assessment of quality and content is key.

We are therefore delighted to see that the NAJ have announced that their Codes of Practice, covering many topics, have now been made available to all jewellery businesses in the UK, irrespective of whether they are a member of the Association or not.

It's certainly very true that we are all constantly striving to ensure consumer protection, and that this is vitally important at every level.

The Sheffield Assay Office was established in 1773, under an Act of Parliament and today the company assays and hallmarks the precious metals - silver, gold, platinum and palladium. Sheffield Assay Office is one of only four UK assay offices who all work to uphold the Hallmarking Act of 1973 and continue to ensure consumer protection for customers purchasing precious metals.
