Silversmithing workshops at Silver Space, Yorkshire Artspace - places available in 2025!

We're excited to share details of a new series of silversmithing workshops hosted by Yorkshire Artspare in the new year.

The six-week course, led by renowned silversmith Charlotte Tollyfield, will teach key silversmithing skills and give participants the opportunity to produce desirable objects in fine metal.

The course will take place in Silver Space, Yorkhire Artspace's specialist facility for contemporary silversmithing at the Persistence Works studio complex. It is ideal for beginners or people interested in honing and developing their skills.

Sessions will run on Tuesday evenings from 7pm-9pm from 7 January to 11 Feburary. Only eight spaces are available, so book now to avoid disappointment.

Over the six weeks you'll be taken through a series of short, guided projects by Charlotte designed to introduce core silversmithing skills to beginners. Those who already know the basics are welcome to work on their own projects using our tools and facilities with expert tuition on hand to guide you. This isn't a jewellery-making course - you'll be supported to create beautiful, sculptural or functional objects.

Each participant will have access to a workbench and a full selection of tools including stakes, hammers and the hearth. Fine metals such as copper and brass are provided along with basic consumables. If you wish to progress to creating an object in silver, we'll be able to assist you in working out what you need and where to order it. Please note that the cost of silver isn't included in the price of the course, and you'll need to budget separately for this.

Each three-hour evening session will be led by Charlotte with assistance from our Silver Fellows, so everyone on the course will be fully supported. You will be hosted in Silver Space, the state of the art facility at Persistence Works - an inspiring centre of creative production where many of the UK’s leading silversmiths are based and which boasts excellent connections to the city’s metalwork heritage.
