Shinta Nakajima wins Artist of the Fair at Collect 2025
Published: 14th March 2025
The Crafts Council Collect Art Fair is the leading international art fair for contemporary craft and design.
The fair showcases the best work created by living artists in the world today. It's where museums acquire art for their contemporary collections and interior designers and art advisors select work with their clients.
There are over 400 contemporary artists by 40 galleries from across the globe. Each gallery creates its own signature curation for the historic rooms of Somerset House and commissions new bodies of work especially for the fair. Shinta Nakajima was delighted to exhibit at the fair this year.
In 2024, Sheffield Assay Office provided Shinta with a materials bursary. This enabled him to produce a new body of work following on from his Acanthus series of sculptural works, which he took to Collect. Shinta said: "This was a great opportunity to show my work and highlight the possibilities of Sheffield. For the main polished pieces I collaborated with local trade maker Kurt Calow and Ben Alger of Raven Silverware.
"I am delighted to have won the Artist of the Fair at Collect 2025 at Somerset House in London. I wish to thank Assay Master, Ashley Carson and Curator Emma Paragreen at Sheffield Assay Office for their support of my practice and finished body of work."
Many congratulations to Shinta, who'll be exhibiting at Goldsmiths North from 30 May – 1 June 2025 at Cutlers’ Hall in Sheffield.
The Sheffield Assay Office was established in 1773, under an Act of Parliament and today the company assays and hallmarks the precious metals - silver, gold, platinum and palladium. Sheffield Assay Office is one of only four UK assay offices who all work to uphold the Hallmarking Act of 1973 and continue to ensure consumer protection for customers purchasing precious metals.
