Sheffield Hallam University Students Receive Assay Master Awards

On behalf of our Assay Master, Sheffield Assay Office Guardians Colette Bishop and Emma Paragreen were delighted to award special prizes to students from Sheffield Hallam University's Jewellery, Materials and Design course.
The BA Jewellery Material and Design final year degree show took place at Yorkshire Artspace, Persistence Works and 2023 marks the 28th year that Sheffield Assay Office have supported this course.
Sheffield silversmith, Colette spent time viewing every piece in the afternoon and judging them accordingly. She decided to award the following two prizes at the evening event:
- Assay Master Award 2023 Runner Up - Justina Oakden for her 'Anamnesis (A Recalling to Mind)'
- Assay Master Award 2023 1st Prize - Freya Liu for her 'Support and Tent' colection of jewellery

The students were congratulated, and tutors and staff thanked for working so hard behind the scenes to make this show possible. It was a wonderful evening to share the student’s achievements.
Ashley Carson said: ‘This is the 28th year that Sheffield Assay Office has supported the course and recognises the quality and hard work displayed in the students work. It is so important more than ever to show support for the future of the discipline and we Sheffield Assay Office will certainly continue to sponsor and support students and graduates.'

Winners of the MFA (January 2023):
- Hannah Northward - Assay Masters Recognition Award
- Shinta Nakajima - Assay Masters Recognition Award and presented with a silver commission, a piece to be added to the Sheffield Assay Office collection during the 250th anniversary year
Winners of the BA Jewellery, Material and Design (June 2023):
- Justina Oakden - Assay Masters Award Runner Up
- Freya Liu - Assay Masters Award First Prize
