Sheffield Assay Office Decorate for Christmas with Help of Local Designer Silversmiths

Published: 15th December 2023

Earlier in the year, the Sheffield Assay Office team started to collect Christmas tree decorations and we are delighted that our festive decorations now showcase the work of local silversmiths Rebecca Joseyln, Ben Ryan, Charlotte Tolleyfield and Jen Ricketts.

Our Curator Emma Paragreen said thanks to Ashley Carson, Assay Master for making a variety of purchases during the year; "It has been an absolute pleasure to decorate the Sheffield Assay Office Christmas tree with such exquisite decorations and these now form part of the Sheffield Assay Office collection, a wonderful addition in our 250th anniversary year!"

The Sheffield Assay Office was established in 1773, under an Act of Parliament and today the company assays and hallmarks the precious metals - silver, gold, platinum and palladium. Sheffield Assay Office is one of only four UK assay offices who all work to uphold the Hallmarking Act of 1973 and continue to ensure consumer protection for customers purchasing precious metals.
