With the first year over and preparations afoot for 2020, Goldsmiths North and Sheffield Assay Office are delighted to celebrate the success of the first contemporary Silverware and Jewellery selling Fair at Cutlers’ Hall, Sheffield.
The event took place from 12th-14th July and with over 2000 visitors to the show, Sheffield Assay Office staff and the 60 other exhibitors were kept extremely busy over the three days. The Sheffield Assay Office team were delighted to speak with existing customers at the fair and inform those who knew little of the office about the world of assaying, hallmarking and consumer protection.
A number of the Sheffield Assay Office team were on hand to answer questions from the public, including: Assay Master Ashley Carson, Guardian Helen Dimmick, Production Manager Danny Smith, Quality Manager Matthew Hawker and team members Jordan Carson, Aaron Walker, Michael Wood and Emma Paragreen. The Assay Office team demonstrated XRF testing and the marking process before answering any hallmarking questions from the attendees. After this, the public ventured into the wonderful exhibition space full of exquisite jewellery and silverware.
Sheffield's designer silversmiths and jewellers were extremely well represented at the fair, some local exhibitioners included Colette Bishop, Chris Boland, Imogen Clarkstone, Jennie Gill, Rebecca Joselyn, Brett Payne, Jen Ricketts, Ryan McClean, Emily Thatcher, Charlotte Tollyfield, Adam Veever, Fenella Watson and Zoe Watts. Along with the Starter Studio participants for Yorkshire Artspace.
Ashley Carson, said “Home to one of only four Assay Offices in the UK, Sheffield is the obvious choice as a setting for this prestigious event. As Assay Master, I am proud to be sponsoring Goldsmiths North and very much looking forward to capitalising on the great success of the first year of the fair”.
If you missed the fair this year, don’t panic! Dates for Goldsmiths North 2020 will be on the website very soon www.goldsmithsnorth.com.
The Sheffield Assay Office was established in 1773, under an Act of Parliament and today the company assays and hallmarks the precious metals - silver, gold, platinum and palladium. Sheffield Assay Office is one of only four UK assay offices who all work to uphold the Hallmarking Act of 1973 and continue to ensure consumer protection for customers purchasing precious metals.
