Lab Grown Diamonds Continue to Penetrate the Market
Published: 3rd November 2022
It's great to see that the laboratory grown diamond continues to grow globally, with many different companies now offering both natural and lab grown collections. These organisations understand that to capture as much of the market as possible they have to ensure they are catering to all possible needs of the consumer.
Many UK retailers offer a bespoke jewellery service and, whilst up to a few years ago they would have only used natural diamonds, many are now happy to offer lab grown diamonds in their place. As the quality of the stones available has become much better in recent years and many are also sold with certificates, it offers retailers the confidence that they are selling a quality product.
In addition to the jewellery industry encompassing lab grown diamonds, the watch industry has also begun to consider the alternatives.
Breitling are leading the way and have just unveiled their Super Chronomat Origins Watch with lab grown diamonds and traceable artisanal gold. This is in an effort to strengthen their commitment to sustainability, transparency and traceablility in the supply chain. They have teamed up with the Swiss Better Gold Association for properly sourced artisanal gold and are using lab grown diamonds to enable complete certification of the origins of the precious metals used in each timepiece. This clearly demonstrates that it is an area that companies will be considering more moving forward.
However, it is still extremely important however that the consumer understands what they are purchasing. This is particularly relevant when you look at the price of the items as there is such a large difference. Many manufacturers are now also offering lab grown diamond product which does not come with a certificate. The key is to ensure that all staff are well trained in what the differences are between the product. As we know there have been many lab grown diamonds in the system for years however it is only more recently that they have risen in popularity.
