Chris Heaton - The Last Epic Challenge
Published: 20th June 2024
On Tuesday 11th June here at Sheffield Assay Office we were delighted to host 24 guests who helped to raise £350 for the Master Cutler's Challenge.
The evening involved a fascinating presentation by Executive Member and Guardian, Chris Heaton, describing his recent 1000 mile cycle ride across the Empty Quarter Desert - the largest continuous sand desert on earth.
Chris described the experience in great detail, using stunning immersive photography and video, and left guests with a real sense of what it was like to tackle this kind of epic challenge.
The catering was kindly provided by Country Fresh Foods.
Everyone here at Sheffield Assay Office is in complete awe of the numerous incredible physical challenges that Chris has undertaken over the years, and this, his final challenge, (completed after a total hip replacement!) is truly exceptional. Huge congratulations Chris!
The Sheffield Assay Office was established in 1773, under an Act of Parliament and today the company assays and hallmarks the precious metals - silver, gold, platinum and palladium. Sheffield Assay Office is one of only four UK assay offices who all work to uphold the Hallmarking Act of 1973 and continue to ensure consumer protection for customers purchasing precious metals.
