Assay Office Staff Take Part in Master Cutler's Challenge

On Friday 30th June, 20 members of the Sheffield Assay Office team donated to take part in the Master Cutler's Challenge, helping to raise funds for The Wentworth Woodhouse Preservation Trust.

Each year, the Master Cutler of Hallamshire chooses a charity to be supported through the Master Cutler’s Challenge. Dame Julie Ann Kenny DBE DL is the Master Cutler for 2022/23 and she chose to raise money for Wentworth Woodhouse, to help fund the community projects they hold for the people of South Yorkshire.

Led by the Assay Master, Ashley Carson, the Assay Office team were given time off work to take part in the challenge and, in total, walked just over 10 miles from Endcliffe Park to Hathersage.

Ashley Carson commented "I think some of the staff thought that this was going to be a stroll in the park, but were surprised at the heights we climbed to! They all did fantastic and earned their refreshments at the finish. Wentworth Woodhouse is an amazing charity and it was very much appreciated that the Master Cutler started us off and was at the finish to welcome us into Hathersage."

We are also delighted that Rachel Holloway, a member of the British Hallmarking Council joined us and took part in the 16.03km walk.

We are thrilled to say that we managed to raise an amazing £1,500 for this year's Master Cutler's Challenge!

The Sheffield Assay Office was established in 1773, under an Act of Parliament and today the company assays and hallmarks the precious metals - silver, gold, platinum and palladium. Sheffield Assay Office is one of only four UK assay offices who all work to uphold the Hallmarking Act of 1973 and continue to ensure consumer protection for customers purchasing precious metals.
