Published: 24th April 2023
On Monday 17th April, our Assay Master, Ashley Carson was delighted to attend this year's National Market Traders Federation Conference in Blackpool.
The theme for the conference was 'Building on the Revival of Markets' and Mr Carson was delighted to speak to the attendees about 700 years of hallmarking history and the work that Sheffield Assay Office continues to do.
Pictured below is Mr Carson at the conference, explaining how to recognise a hallmark.
The NMTF was founded in 1899 as the National Market Traders Federation and are the only national trade association for market and street traders, events retailers and mobile caterers in the UK.
The Sheffield Assay Office was established in 1773, under an Act of Parliament and today the company assays and hallmarks the precious metals - silver, gold, platinum and palladium. Sheffield Assay Office is one of only four UK assay offices who all work to uphold the Hallmarking Act of 1973 and continue to ensure consumer protection for customers purchasing precious metals.
