A Day at the Races
Published: 19th September 2023
To celebrate the 250th anniversary of Sheffield Assay Office, Assay Master Ashley Carson treated all staff to a special day out at Doncaster Races during St Ledger week.
The office was closed on Friday 15th September to give our hard-working teams the opportunity to have some well deserved time out to celebrate this momentous 250th anniversary.
Mr Carson said; "I would like to say a huge thank you to all of our customers who had to work around the office closing for the day. Despite many staff pleading for this to be an annual event, I am sorry to inform them that it won't be for another 250 years."
During this special time of celebration, we would like to extend our thanks not only to our incredible team but also to the loyal customers and friends that we at Sheffield Assay Office have gathered during our long and proud history.
The Sheffield Assay Office was established in 1773, under an Act of Parliament and today the company assays and hallmarks the precious metals - silver, gold, platinum and palladium. Sheffield Assay Office is one of only four UK assay offices who all work to uphold the Hallmarking Act of 1973 and continue to ensure consumer protection for customers purchasing precious metals.
